While there are alternative methods to identify refrigerant types, they may not be as straightforward or reliable as examining the name plate. For instance, reading the expansion valve plate might not always provide the necessary information if the equipment has been retrofitted or modified. Connecting manifold gauges could indicate system pressure, but different refrigerants can have overlapping pressure characteristics, making it difficult to definitively identify the refrigerant type based solely on pressure readings.
